A Fiat for life
Italians and their love for cars are legendary. Ferrari and Lamborghini
are world famous, but for some people there is no better car than
the Fiat 500. Among them is Brunero Baccheschi, president of the
Club 500 in Torrita di Siena.
On the first of January 2000, owners of this nice little car united
to share their love for the Fiat 500. Every year there are three
big gatherings, organised by Baccheschi, who also runs a bar at
the Porta Nova in Torrita di Siena. “Originally the Fiat 500 was
a working class car. It wasn't expensive and ideal to go to work
with, as well as to use in the free time.”
The production of the Fiat 500 started in 1957, and the last one
was finished in 1974. Back then it was a cheap car, but now it's
on its way to become antique, prices have increased a bit. “Now,
in 2004 a Fiat 500 costs between 2.600 and 10.400 euros. My car
is a special one and is a little more pricy.”
The club consists of 22 members and is a real club in all aspects: president, treasure keeper, council and secretary have their hands full the whole year. “We organise three gatherings a year; one in Torrita for old-timers, as well for cars as for motorcycles, and two gatherings in Montefollonico and Torrita di Siena for Fiat 500s.” back | top
