| Carlo Parri
Artistic painter from Torrita
The Italian painter Carlo Parri was born in Torrita di Siena on June 2nd, 1897. At age eleven he and his family moved to Genua. However, he remained much attached to his birthplace and he often went back there to pass the holidays. He studied at the Accademia di Francia in Rome and later at the Accademia Linguistica di Belle Arte in Genua, where he was taught by painter and sculptor Mario Agrifoglio.
He made his debut on an exposition of the Società di Belle Arti, the Society of Fine Arts, in Genua. Throughout his career as a painter he mainly realised expositions in Genua, Milan and Savona. In Genua he was part of the Gruppo della Casana, with whom he first exhibited in 1945. He has created more than five hundred works in his life.
In June 1969 Carlo Parri got incurably ill and he died September 19 th of the same year. In his will he left his works to the city of Torrita, but his bequest was turned down. Nando Malacarne, a friend for life of Parri, ensured that the heritage went to the Maestri hospital in Torrita, of which he was a member of the Board. The paintings were sold to collectors and art galleries to pay for the renovation of the hospital. Some of Parri's works can still be admired at the Palazzo Communale of Torrita di Siena.
